gnome recognition of Bluetooth USB Dongle.

Post by hoodcanaljim » 2019/07/14 00:10:37

Hi
I have been running a wireless keyboard and mouse on Centos since 6
and have never had any problems. But now I want to add Bluetooth
to my PC so that we can connect to our cellphones and tablets, all Samsung
with the hope of being able to use the network printer that is the default
printer on my PC.
So I bought a USB dongle and the fun began. I have been able to pair my
phone to the PC using bluetoothctl. But the gnome panel at
"Applications/System Tools/Settings/Bluetooth" never shows any dongle.

Note: this maybe important, I have manually configured my network card
and so have turned off NetworkManager. More so since I now see there
is a plugin for NetworkManager called NetworkManager-Bluetooth.

And if NetworkManger is require to Bluetooth with gnome will I have to
reconfigure my interfaces?

Thanks
Jim

Okay, so I turned on networkmanager after putting the line "NMCONTROLLED=no" in my ifcfg for my ethernet card. The world didn't stop spinning and now I have my phone which I linked earlier showing in the "Applications/System Tools/Settings/Bluetooth".
I was successful in linking my wife's phone also and I have sent image files from both to my PC.

Thanks
Jim

Hi As a final wrap-up I now have two phones and two tablets connected by bluetooth and have downloaded files from each to my PC. So I am satisfied, all the bluetooth connections are visible in the"Applications/System Tools/Settings/Bluetooth" panel and also in the "Network" at the bottom of the panel shows the first two items I linked and shows their status as off. But this doesn't seem to affect the connections so o-well..

edit: if you buy one of these dongles there is a small installation disk in the packaging. I had no use for it but it is in there.
