FYI... I ram into this issue and just thought I would mention the cause, as this thread came up as the first hit on google, but wasn't directly helpful...
Short answer... The authorized_keys was invalid. It had sh-dss instead of ssh-dss...
The main problem is the only error message logged is misleading as the issue has nothing to do with UID. Might not be related to the original problem, but just putting a note to help others who see this error....
