An "upgrade" does not remove currently running kernel. It adds a new kernel.
Therefore, the bootloader's (GRUB) menu should show at least two entries, with latest addition being the default.

Choose the older kernel on boot. That way you can work.

Also, make sure you remove the words 'rhgb' 'quiet' from the kernel command line so you can see the kernel messages as it boots. Those can hide teh real cause of any error.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thank you, Jlehtone and TrevorH!

I tried the old ones and the reboot fails as well.
"unable to get SMM dell signature" might not be the problem, as I saw "Failed to start NVDIA Persistenced Daemon" after remove 'rhgb' and 'quite'.
It seems the upgrade to the new version of kernel makes the video driver fail to work.
So, I tried to roll back to nouveau by deleting the blacklist=nouveau from grub, and it didn't work.
Then I entered the command line interface and removed the nvidia driver.
Now, I can't even log into command line.
Maybe, re-install centos 8.

Reinstall the nvidia driver if you still can.

Hi TrevorH,
The graphic card is nvidia RTX T1000.
I reinstalled the centos 8 and the driver and still got "failed to start nvidia persistence daemon" at boot.
systemctl status shows:
nvidia-persistenced.service: start request repeated too quickly.

btw: failed to reinstall centos 8 with a monitor connected to this graphic card
I reinstalled the centos with a monitor connected to the integrated one.
It's dual system. windows 11 is successfully loaded with this graphic card.
Thank you!

Hi TrevorH,

It seems upgrade to 4.18.0-500.el8 introduces a new version of nvidia-driver which fails the installation of centos 8 and graphic boot on my nvidia rtx t1000.
downgrade to nvidia-driver:530-dkms solved the problem.
I guess no upgrade for me before nvidia-driver:latest-dkms works for my graphic card.
Hope it could help someone else who has the same issue.

Thank you!
