Hello All,
I would like to simulate a customer environment.
Main OS deployed is CentOS 8 stream.
Downloaded last version (CentOS-Stream-8-20240212.0-x86_64).
Every install fails with the same error message
"The following error occured while installing. This is a fatal error and installation will be aborted"
"DNF error: Error in POSTIN scriplet in rpm package coreutils-common"
Did a quick search and found nothing relevant to such an error message during installation
I tried on Vsphere 8 and workstation 16 but both failed at the exact same point.
An install of centOS 9 stream succeeds. (with the same VM hardware parameters 4 CPU,8Gb RAM & 20GB HDD)
Any advice on how to circumvent this issue ?
Thanks in advance,
Eric
Unable to install CentOS 8 stream as a Virtual Machine
Re: Unable to install CentOS 8 stream as a Virtual Machine
I'd strongly advise against installing CentOS Stream 8 now. It goes EOL in June this year so you only have 4 months in which to use it. If you want a RHEL 8 clone then use one of the rebuilds listed in my Sig below.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

You're right, I think I got annoyed and replaced it with the "go Debian" version!
Have the one from the #centos IRC robot instead
There are various rebuilds of RHEL 8+ including Rocky - #rockylinux, Alma - #almalinux, and OEL - #oracle-linux. Or RHEL has a 16 instance free developer license. There is also CentOS Stream which isn't a one-for-one rebuild and has support in #centos-stream

Re: Unable to install CentOS 8 stream as a Virtual Machine
Hello,
in fact, I really have to install CentOS 8 Stream as it is for a proof of concept of a Backup solution using Veeam for the customer.
Not even a proof of concept as the project has aleady been sold to the customer.
Tried an older installer revision (CentOS-Stream-8-20230308.3-x86_64-dvd1.iso) and the install completed successfuly.
Guess there is something in the newest image that is preventing the installation under VM.
Thanks for your answers anyway.
Regards,
Eric
