The QA team was asked to be ready.
If you wish to see what the new release will look like, here's the link to the upstream Release Notes and Technical Notes.

SRPMS are available. The build is in progress. The first complete tree for QA testing to start on should be available soon.

Another place worth watching is Planet CentOS. In fact, there is a post by Karanbir Singh asking for kickstart files. You can help, too. Please see his blog for further details.

There isn't any (externally visible) news today. If you are looking for something to read and if you were not around when 5.3 was being built, or if you are simply bored --

It may also be interesting to follow Karanbir's tweets.

The first tree for QA testing is not yet available. However it might be close. As of April 04 there were just 8 packages failing, according to Karanbir.

A few kickstart files have been submitted. You can see them here. Karanbir says many more needed.

Re: When will CentOS 5.5 be released?
There isn't much to report at this moment. Things are happening mostly internally. There were some kinks that had to be taken care of as far as package building is concerned, it seems. I have a feeling that the QA team will see some materials fairly soon...
