Intel Skylake Server Processor

Post by mrw@mwcltd.co.uk » 2017/09/13 16:19:54

Hello,
We have a new Intel Skylake server which uses AST2500 graphics. The 6.9 distribution will boot but before the Anaconda graphics screen for configuration input the server hangs. If I install an Invidia NVS310 which overrides the AST2500 everything works. Does anyone have an iso driver which can be loaded on boot or the required grub commands.
Thank you.

Does it do it with CentOS 7? CentOS 6 has followed RHEL 6 and is now in production phase 3 which means that only updates for critical security problems will be released until it goes EOL in 2020. For new installations you are strongly recommended to use CentOS 7.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

CentOS 7.3 and RHEL 7.4 work with the AST2500. The main problem is that there are users where their applications only work on CentOS 6.*.

A possibility is to install 7 on the hardware and use a VM running 6 for those applications.

We had the same issue with a similar piece of hardware. The graphical installer can be made to work by adding xdriver=vesa to the kernel command line in the boot loader.
