Installation of CentOS6 from USB

Post by waelti_de » 2018/11/07 12:42:24

I try to install CentOS6 from USB without any other media but an USB stick.
The only problem I still have is that I can't set the installation source flexibly. Depending on the computer, the installation partition of the USB stick is sda1 or sdb1 or sdc1.
To find the ks.cfg I use ks=hd:UUID=675A-945E:ks.cfg initrd=initrd.img
If I would set a hard path, it would be in anaconda for example:
harddrive --partition=sdb1 --dir /CentOS/os/x86_64
How can I set it flexible, something like UUID for the identification of the partition doesn´t seem to work.

Kind regards

Are you really sure you want to install CentOS 6 at this late stage in its lifecycle? It only has 2 years more of security-only fixes left in it before it goes EOL in 2020.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Yes, because our OEM works still on CentOS 6.6, most of his programs aren´t stable under CentOS 7

Then you have worse problems. 6.6 hasn't been supported since the release of 6.7 more than 3 years ago and 6.6 could be as old as 4 years ago in which case your system is highly insecure and needs updating ASAP.
